Children's speech therapy

Feeding and swallowing

Mealtimes are supposed to be a comfort, so when eating is a struggle it can weigh on the whole family. Some children have trouble chewing, swallowing safely, or accepting a range of foods. We help make eating safer and calmer, one small step at a time.

What you might notice

  • Coughs, gags, or chokes during meals
  • Accepts only a very small set of foods
  • Struggles to chew or move food around the mouth
  • Refuses whole textures, like anything lumpy
  • Mealtimes are stressful or take a very long time

How we help

We evaluate how your child eats and drinks, then build a gentle plan to expand skills and comfort at the table. Terri sets the plan and Allee delivers the sessions under her supervision. We move at a pace your child can handle and coach you so mealtimes at home feel more relaxed.

What a session looks like

Sessions are playful and low-pressure, letting your child explore new foods and textures without being forced. We build trust first, then skills, and we send home practical ideas so progress carries into your kitchen.

We tailor feeding work from infants and toddlers through older children, always matching your child's pace.

Common questions

My child is just a picky eater. Is that a real concern?+

Many children are picky and grow out of it. But when the list of accepted foods is very small, or meals bring stress or choking, an evaluation can tell you whether support would help.

Will you force my child to eat new foods?+

Never. We use a gentle, pressure-free approach that builds trust and comfort first. Forcing tends to backfire, so we go at your child's pace.

When should feeding be looked at in person?+

Some swallowing concerns are best assessed in person so we can watch closely and keep your child safe. We will let you know if an in-office visit is the right call.
