Children's speech therapy

Support for late talkers

If your little one is not saying as many words as you expected, you are not alone, and you are not too late. Some children simply take longer to find their words, and a few early sessions can make a real difference. We meet your toddler exactly where they are and build from there.

What you might notice

  • Fewer than about 50 words by age two
  • Not yet putting two words together
  • Points or leads you by the hand instead of using words
  • Seems to understand more than they can say
  • Gets frustrated when you cannot understand what they want

How we help

We start by watching how your child already communicates, then coach both of you through the play and everyday moments where words tend to grow. Terri evaluates and sets the plan, and Allee delivers the sessions under her supervision. You leave each visit with simple ideas you can fold into snack time, bath time, and car rides.

What a session looks like

Sessions look a lot like play, because that is how young children learn language best. We follow your child's lead with toys and books they enjoy, then gently model the words just above what they are doing now. You are welcome to join in so the practice carries into your week.

This support is designed for toddlers and young preschoolers, and earlier is always easier than later.

Common questions

Should I wait to see if my child catches up on their own?+

Some children do catch up, but there is no way to know in advance, and early support is gentle and low-pressure. Reaching out now means you either get reassurance or a helpful head start.

My child understands everything. Does that mean speech is fine?+

Strong understanding is a wonderful sign, and it often means your child is ready to add spoken words with a little help. We look at both understanding and talking so we can build on that strength.

How soon could we get started?+

Soon. We keep no waitlist, so reach out and we will respond the same day or the next business day to find a time that fits your family.
